Mechanical and tribological properties of Si and W doped diamond like carbon (DLC) under dry reciprocating sliding conditions

The mechanical and tribological properties of three types diamond like carbon (DLC) coatings, i.e., non-doped, Si-doped, W-doped DLC, are evaluated. Dry reciprocating sliding wear tests were performed to evaluate the effect frequency/velocity on friction, adhesion, wear. degree graphitization non-doped DLC increases with velocity, which results in a lower coefficient friction (COF), decrease rate. Si-doped however, exhibits distinct behaviour, increasing COF severe fluctuations at higher velocities. In Si-DLC frictional heating drives formation an oxide-rich tribofilm large amounts Si-rich oxide debris that both adhesive abrasive. tribofilm, lack surface graphitization, result via stick-slip fracture/wear mechanisms, significantly increased rates
